UK Memorials to Falkland Veterans

18 Mar

We have made great progress in locating memorials to Falkland Veterans around the UK.  These memorials can be anything from a name on War Memorial in Town/Village,  a plaque in a church, a bench, or anything else with a veteran’s name on it.

Our file is growing by the day, but there are more out there.  If you know of any, or come across anything of note on your travels, we would be grateful if you could either note details, or take a quick photo and send it to us here at the SAMA 82 office.

We will eventually get out memorial file onto the website.

National Museum of the Royal Navy–New Exhibition

16 Mar

a new exhibition promising to challenge the historical perceptions of a major First World Was campaign opens at the National Museum of the RN, Portsmouth on Saturday 28th March.

2015 marks the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign in what is now modern-day Turkey, and the new exhibition Myth and Memory explores every element from troop deployment to their evacuation nearly a year later.

Through never-before-seen exhibits and witness accounts, the displays re-tell the misunderstood story of Gallipoli and how all the branches of the RN were instrumental in supporting operations on land.
